Mukul Padalkar, MVSc, BVSc & AH, DABVP (Canine & Feline Practice), has been named the 2026 Veterinary Hero in general practice by *dvm360*. Her lifelong passion for veterinary medicine, combined with her extensive experience and dedication, has earned her this prestigious recognition. ## From India to the US: A Veterinary Journey Padalkar’s love for veterinary medicine began in her childhood. Growing up in India in a family of physicians, she was drawn to the field of veterinary care. She earned her veterinary degree from Bombay Veterinary College in Mumbai and practiced small-animal medicine for five years before moving to the US. There, she completed a rotating internship at North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine. During her time in India, Padalkar faced challenges due to limited diagnostic tools and trained support staff. This required her to perform many technical tasks herself, skills she continues to rely on today. Her experiences in India shaped her approach to veterinary medicine and prepared her for the transition to practicing in the US. ## Establishing a Practice and Mentorship Program Padalkar entered US private practice in 2020, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. She later cofounded Revive Veterinary Care in San Carlos, California, where she also established a mentorship program. As a MentorVet-certified mentor, she is committed to supporting and inspiring the next generation of veterinarians. Reflecting on her journey, Padalkar emphasized the importance of self-trust. She advises others to have faith in themselves and their abilities. "I’m very lucky that I get to be in this position where other people from India or minority women look at me and think, ‘Hey, I can also do this.’ If I can do it, why can’t they?" she shared. ## Inspiring Others in Veterinary Medicine Padalkar’s recognition as a Veterinary Hero highlights her contributions to the field and her role as an inspiration to others.
