Purina Releases FortiFlora Diarrhea Kit for Dogs and Cats

# New Diarrhea Kit for Dogs and Cats Nestlé Purina PetCare has introduced the FortiFlora Diarrhea Response Kit, a two-step over-the-counter system designed to help manage occasional diarrhea in dogs and cats. The kit pairs FortiFlora Response stick packs, a liver-flavored powder containing kaolin and pectin, with FortiFlora sachets, a probiotic formulated with the single strain *Enterococcus lactis* SF68. According to Purina, the stick packs help firm loose stools and soothe the gastrointestinal tract, while the probiotic sachets promote daily digestive health. The labeled protocol recommends administering a stick pack every eight hours for up to 72 hours, after which owners switch to daily sachets. Purina advises continued daily use after the kit is finished. ## What is FortiFlora? Purina describes FortiFlora as the top veterinarian-recommended probiotic brand for digestive health. This claim is based on a Q4 2025 online survey of US veterinarians who named the brand among 1 to 3 brands they recommended. ## Comparison with Other Products The FortiFlora Diarrhea Response Kit is comparable to the Proviable Diarrhea Support Kit marketed by Nutramax Laboratories Veterinary Sciences. While both products aim to manage diarrhea in dogs and cats, they differ in their formulations. FortiFlora uses a single strain of probiotic, whereas Proviable delivers multiple strains of bacteria at 5 billion colony-forming units, along with prebiotics intended to encourage growth of those strains in the gut. ## Important Notes Pet owners should consult a veterinarian if diarrhea persists beyond 3 days, worsens, or is accompanied by vomiting or changes in appetite or energy. It is also recommended to note the frequency of the diarrhea and the presence of blood, mucus, or straining, and to consider a fecal examination to rule out parasites, which are a common cause of diarrhea in dogs. ## Availability and Pricing The FortiFlora kit is available in different sizes based on weight class, each containing a corresponding number of stick packs plus five sachets. Suggested retail pricing is $34.99 for cats and small dogs, $38.99 for medium dogs, and $42.99 for large dogs. It can be purchased on Amazon, Chewy, and VetDirect.com, or through veterinarians. ## Contested Claims Both Purina and Nutramax claim to be the top-recommended brands in their respective categories, although these claims rest on separate surveys and methodologies.
