Revival Animal Health recalls feline milk
Revival Animal Health is recalling its Breeder's Edge and Shelter's Choice feline milk replacers after testing found low levels of essential nutrients.
Revival Animal Health has issued a voluntary recall for its Breeder's Edge and Shelter's Choice feline milk replacers. The recall, announced via the FDA on August 26, 2026, follows testing that revealed inconsistent levels of essential vitamins and minerals.
No confirmed illnesses have been reported, but the company is investigating nine complaints of potential gastrointestinal and bone development issues in kittens fed the products. The Iowa-based firm said the affected products contain low levels of potassium, copper, folic acid, choline, and vitamin B6.
Health risks for kittens
Milk replacers are critical for orphaned, abandoned, or unweaned kittens in veterinary, shelter, foster, and breeding settings. Kittens are highly vulnerable to nutrient deficiencies due to rapid growth, immature organs, and total reliance on milk for nutrition.
Deficiencies that might be minor in adults can be quickly fatal or cause permanent damage in kittens. According to the FDA announcement, kittens fed a replacer deficient in these specific nutrients face risks including anemia, neurological dysfunction, liver failure, kidney damage, skeletal disease, and cardiac compromise. Clinical signs can appear within days to a few weeks. The recalled products were sold nationwide online and in retail pet stores. They came in resealable stand-up bags and 12-ounce jars. Consumers should check the Universal Product Code (UPC) and best-by date against the following list.

Cause and previous recalls
Revival stated it began investigating after third-party test results suggested a possible nutrient deficiency in one lot. Further testing on multiple lots and analysis by an independent animal nutritionist pointed to inconsistencies in third-party manufacturing. This is not Revival's first milk replacer recall this year. In April 2026, the company recalled its canine milk replacers over variable vitamin D levels, with two complaints of rickets reported at the time. That recall was expanded in June 2026 to include goat milk products.
