Boehringer Ingelheim and Purina Open Major New US Pet Care

Boehringer Ingelheim has opened a new US headquarters for its animal health business in Johns Creek, Georgia. Separately, Nestlé Purina PetCare has begun operations at a new $550 million manufacturing facility in Batavia, Ohio, its first factory built from scratch in over five decades.

According to a company news release, the Georgia location was chosen for its talent pool and proximity to other Boehringer Ingelheim sites in the state. The new headquarters is intended to consolidate staff and foster collaboration. Peter Ploeger, the US animal health country managing director, stated the facility was designed to bring our people together, inspire collaboration, and strengthen our ability to develop solutions that improve the lives of companion animals, livestock, and the people who care for them.

To mark the opening, the company donated parasite protection products to the local police department's K-9 unit. Johns Creek Mayor John Bradberry expressed appreciation for the company's support of the police dogs.

Purina's Major Ohio Investment

Purina's new Ohio factory represents the largest single investment Nestlé has made in a Purina manufacturing site. The 1.3-million-square-foot facility is located about 30 miles from Cincinnati. It currently employs over 430 people, with plans to expand the workforce to more than 500.

The plant uses advanced robotics, automation, and digital tools. An Automated Storage and Retrieval System is part of the setup. Company officials say the facility is designed to produce enough food to feed roughly 8 million pets each year. It also features a visitor center called the Manufacturing Experience Center.

Mike Ferritto, the factory manager, said the combination of technology and team is what makes the Batavia site special. During the grand opening, the Purina Foundation announced two $30,000 community grants. One grant supports shelter dog housing at the League for Animal Welfare. The other aids a project that provides pet supplies and veterinary help to families in financial need.

Veterinary Clinic Recognition

In a different type of update, 143 Veterinary Services in Cohasset, Massachusetts, has been named Best Veterinarian of the South Shore for the third consecutive year. The award is presented by South Shore Home, Life & Style magazine based on over 400,000 local votes.

The practice was founded in March 2023 by Dr. Diana Watkins, a Tufts University veterinary school graduate with nearly two decades of experience. Watkins said the repeated recognition reflects both her staff's hard work and the community's trust in their approach.

The clinic's name references the 1-4-3 light signal pattern from a nearby lighthouse, which historically means "I Love You." The practice engages with its community through sponsorships of youth sports, partnerships with animal shelters including donated services, and offering educational "veterinarian for a day" opportunities for students.
