Two major acquisitions in the pet care industry were finalized in September 2026. Veterinary diagnostics giant IDEXX Laboratories bought AI clinical documentation company CoVetAI, and fresh-food brand The Farmer's Dog completed its first-ever acquisition by purchasing the pet wellness company Woof.

These deals highlight ongoing investment and consolidation within the veterinary technology and pet wellness sectors. Both transactions were announced within days of each other, though neither company disclosed the financial terms.

IDEXX Buys AI Software Firm CoVet

IDEXX Laboratories announced its acquisition of CoVetAI on September 16. CoVet provides AI-powered ambient listening and clinical workflow software designed for veterinary practices. Its platform aims to capture and organize patient information from the initial consultation through to treatment planning and client follow-up.

The goal is to reduce the documentation burden on veterinary teams. CoVet's products are used by tens of thousands of clinicians across North America, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand, serving both corporate practice groups and independent clinics.

Mike Erickson, president and CEO of IDEXX, stated the acquisition brings "leading workflow intelligence capabilities" to complement IDEXX's existing diagnostic and software tools. The company said integrating CoVet will help surface patient insights at key decision points and encourage broader use of its diagnostic offerings.

CoVet will be folded into the IDEXX software ecosystem. IDEXX confirmed it will continue to support other ambient scribe tools and third-party integrations, and CoVet will keep working with practice management systems not owned by IDEXX.

The Farmer's Dog Acquires Woof Brand

The Farmer's Dog, a company selling fresh, human-grade dog food, announced it completed the acquisition of Woof on September 18. This marks the first acquisition in The Farmer's Dog's history. Woof is a pet wellness brand known for refillable enrichment products like the Pupsicle.

Woof was founded in 2019 and experienced rapid growth. It was ranked number three overall and number one in consumer products on the 2025 Inc. 5000 list of America's fastest-growing private companies.

According to the announcement, Woof will continue to operate as an independent brand under its existing leadership team. The acquisition provides Woof with access to The Farmer's Dog's resources to support its next phase of expansion. Bank of America’s BofA Securities division served as exclusive financial advisor to The Farmer's Dog for the transaction, with Latham & Watkins LLP acting as legal counsel.
